A Footsteps to Heaven podcast episode
with Terry Modica
This is a companion to the workbook “Knowing God’s Will and Doing It Well“.
Don’t let fear or uncertainty keep you from God’s plan. Pray, seek community, and take the next small step in faith—trusting God to open the doors He wants you to walk through and close the ones that aren’t His will.
How do you know whether an opportunity is really God’s will—or just your own idea? In this episode of Footsteps to Heaven, Terry chats with Philippe Monfiston about his journey of discernment as a husband, father of four, Catholic entrepreneur, and participant in the Tepeyac Leadership Initiative. The wisdom they share include how God guides us through prayer, community, and the small steps of faith that open the door to His plan.
In this conversation, you’ll learn:
• How to recognize when God is calling you to something new
• Why fear of making a mistake can keep us spiritually stuck
• The importance of seeking wisdom from family and faith-filled community
• How God often confirms His will by opening and closing doors
• Why taking “baby steps” can lead to great things
If you’ve ever wondered, “Is this really God’s will for me?”, this conversation will encourage and inspire you.
Remember, you don’t have to have everything figured out before taking the next step. God is faithful, and He knows the plans He has for you.

Terry Modica:
What advice would you give to somebody who feels a pull toward becoming an entrepreneur but wants to make sure they’re following God’s plan and not just pursuing their own ideas?
Philippe Monfiston:
First, I’d say, pray on it. One of the things that held me back was wondering whether it was God’s will or just me wanting God to rubber stamp my plans. It’s a good concern to have, but I feel like in a lot of ways it paralyzed me because I was so afraid that it was the latter that I almost took no steps at all. Whereas once I started to take baby steps, even like I continue to do today, they kind of reinforced that sense that it’s one thing for a path to be difficult, it’s another for it not to be God’s will. I think aspiring entrepreneurs, even like myself, need to make that distinction.
The other thing I’d say is seek community. Even if it’s virtual, even if it’s online, don’t hesitate to reach out. More often than not, you will find people of goodwill who are willing to help. While you’re doing that, God opens doors where He wants you to be and where He wants you to move forward.
Terry Modica:
One of my favorite prayers is, “Lord, if what I’m thinking of doing is Your plan for me, then open the doors. If it’s not, close those doors.” God wants us to walk in His plan, and He has given each of us unique talents, gifts, skills, and experiences that nobody else has. That’s why it’s so important to keep seeking His will and trusting Him with the next step.
